Quiz of the Day: What do Legos and the Grateful Dead have in common?
Answer: My kids and one rough evening.
We had one of those afternoons. Sweet Girl who learned to ride a bike this weekend, decided she had it in her to go farther, faster than ever (boy, if that doesn’t sound like someone else I know…ever so personally.) She rode, but she also fell. And falling makes Sweet Girl very frustrated. Like throwing a seven year old temper tantrum frustrated. She needed some extra rest tonight. As did her brother, who had a tough day at school. That countdown to summer is rough when you’re almost 10, aching for freedom and in need of a good, solid venting. Unfortunately for him, that venting got him in a little trouble. Kiddo has a mouth on him (boy, if that doesn’t sound like someone else I know…ever so personally.) He needed some extra rest tonight.
At 7:00, we circled up in the hallway for our nightly family reading time and by 7:30 they were in their rooms and I was downstairs with a glass of wine and some leftover work to finish. I figured they would read quietly and go to sleep, so imagine my surprise when I went up to check on them at 8:30, only to find them building Legos together in my son’s room, listening to the Grateful Dead and chatting quietly.
They love each other so much. And I’m such a lucky mom.
Sometimes, we just need to give our kid a chance to handle themselves on their own.
